Site Summary (RSS) is a web content syndication format used
to distribute millions of news headlines on the Web. It is
of interest to the State because many, if not all, organizations
in government need an easy way to publish rapidly changing
news information. The State has a requirement to aggregate
a variety of news sources from State Government and many other
sources.
The goal is to provide solutions that agencies can use to
locate, create, store, and serve up RSS channels. Additionally,
it should be to enable web designers to quickly find, select,
and include RSS feeds into their web sites.
Ray Matthews, Utah
State Library Division, presented RSS information, development
strategies, and tools. Matthews has researched and documented
RSS extensively and he conducts RSS workshops at the Utah
State Library. Visit the Library’s
GILS site to read more about RSS or register for the next
workshop.
Following Matthews, Steve
Stalter, Division of Information Technology Services,
demonstrated a mockup of a proposed State RSS application
that would provide a “one-stop shop” for, among
other things, gathering, creating, syndicating, and parsing
RSS channels. |
